I work in an information technology lab as a student employee at a university, and never understood why people with the FREE limewire downloads were considered to be using it "illegally." If this is really the case, then why doesn't Limewire take the hit each time someone gets sued?
Basically my question is, why do they offer the free download of the program if downloading music that way is illegal?
I did a little research, and found that downloading songs for free IS LEGAL, as long as the song is copyrighted, and the downloader isn't making any money for themselves. but most of the songs in limewire are not copyrighted, and does not have a license, so downloading those songs are illegal, but when you try to download those songs, limewire opens up a warning box saying that this file does not have a license, and notes that Limewire does not monitor or control the content of their network, and says please respect the copyright laws. the website http://news.cnet.com/2100-1023-242742.html is my proof saying that downloading songs for free is legal
Limewilimewire download free downloadingre is a p2p networking program. Technically, it's not intended to get free music. It's a system that allows users in locations around the world to share their files with other people. Limewire IS legal because technically it's just a "file sharing" service and it is not held responsible for the files that are downloaded onto the system. Only the users are responsible. That's why, when you download songs from LimeWire, it's legal for them, but NOT for you.

You need to think from the point of veiw of a person or people who want to get access to music and distribute it with out paying for it.
Its not that distributing it is illegal - its the fact that making music available to others who don't payfor it is illegal. If you were to find a way to make movies available on Torrents that you had to payfor - that would be legal and a great way to distribute the movie, only problem is that if it is in digital format it can be hacked, cracked and bypassed very easily.
Basically, Limewire is a p2p (peer to peer) file shlimewire download free downloadingaring program where people offer music up and others download it. It's free because the music on the site is bought and uploaded by other people, and ileagle because music company's don't get their fair share. Why Limewire doesn't take a hit? I don't know, but this is the basic of Limewire.
it is legal to use it for free but not if your downloading copyrighted material limewire is p2p (peer to peer) and p2p is legal but downloading copyrighted material isnt there are some people that dont use it to download copyrighted material but most do limewire was not created for downloading music for free nor were any p2p programs but people started uploading copyrighted material but that still doesnt make them illegal
The reason why people even use Limewire (and FrostWire) is because they don't want to pay anything. If the Limewire program has a price, then what's the point of even using it?
Its only illegal if the copy rights owner complains
